The city of Palma de Mallorca is divided administratively into five districts, which in turn are subdivided into 89 neighborhoods.

Downtown

The neighborhoods that belong to this district are: Sa Calatrava, Cort, Jaime III, La Lonja-Borne, El Mercat, La Missió, Monti-sion, Plaça dels Patins, Puig de Sant Pere, Sant Jaume, Sant Nicolau, La Seu, Sindicat , Port area and Cabrera.

It is made up by the old part of the city that extends from the port to Plaça d’Espanya. The most striking attraction in this area is the Gothic cathedral of ‘La Seu’. It was built on a mosque that was owned by the Romans back then. It is the biggest jewel of Mallorca and can be seen from any point in the city of Palma.

Next to the cathedral there is the Royal Palace of La Almudaina, a 13th-century palace built on an old Muslim Alcázar. Although this Alcázar still conserves its structure, it has undergone several modifications over the years.

The end of the historic center is marked by the torrent of Sa Riera, in the neighborhood of Santa Catalina, just outside the walls.

Levante

The neighborhoods that belong to this district are: Can Capes, Balearic Stadium, Foners, Els Hostalets, Our Lady of Lluc, Marqués de la Fontsanta, Pedro Garau, Polígono de Levante, Rafal Nou, Rafal Vell, La Soledad Norte, La Soledad Sur, Son Canals, Son Cladera, Son Fortesa Norte, Son Fortesa Sur, Son Gotleu, Son Malferit, Son Rullán, El Vivero.

In this area there are many beaches and coves to discover. The Parque de Levante is a getaway route to Mallorca’s pure nature. This natural park is home to a wide variety of plant species such as olive groves, pine forests and holm oaks. It is also worth seeing its sandy beaches, the torrenteras and the precipices that it has.

All of it is combined with the agrarian ecosystems created over time. It is one of the richest and most diverse landscape areas in the city of Palma de Mallorca.

North

The neighborhoods of this district are: Amanecer, Arxiduc, Bons Aires, Camp Redó, Cas Capiscol, Establiments, La Indiotería (rural), La Indiotería (urban), L’Oliverar, Plaza de Toros, Secar de la Real, Son Espanyol, Son Oliva and Son Sardina.

The Balearic Coliseum is a characteristic element of this area. It is the Bullring of Palma de Mallorca, popularly known as the Balearic Coliseum.

It is located on Avenida Gaspar Bennassar (architect who designed it). The ring consists of 11,620 seats in the stands, 4 boxes (north, south, east and west) and measures 44.5 meters in diameter.

Currently it is known for its sport uses. It also hosts numerous concerts, the most crowded ones on the island. The Balearic Coliseum is part of the historical heritage of the city of Palma de Mallorca.

Playa de Palma and Pla de Sant Jordi

The neighborhoods of this district: Airport, S’Aranjassa, Sa Casa Blanca, Sant Jordi, S’Arenal, Son Ferriol, Son Riera, Can Pastilla, Can Pere Antoni, Coll d’en Rabassa, Es Pil.larí, Les Meravelles and El Molinar.

The Airport is in this area. It is a neighborhood with great transportation due to the numerous buses that make their route through the area. The airport is also known as Son Sant Joan International Airport and opened on July 7, 1960, it is the third busiest in the country. It operates with domestic and international flights to various destinations in Europe and North Africa.

West

The neighborhoods that make up this district are: Los Almendros-Son Pacs, La Bonanova, Cala Mayor, Camp d’en Serralta, El Forti, Genoa, Es Jonquet, Portopí, Sant Agustí, Santa Catalina, Son Anglada, Son Armadams, Son Cotoner , Son Dameto, Son Dureta, Son Espanyolet, Son Flor, Son Peretó, Son Rapinya, Son Roca, Son Serra-La Vileta, Son Vida, Son Xigala, Son Ximelis, El Terreno, Sa Teulera and Bellver.

The most characteristic neighborhood of this district is the Es Jonquet, an old fisherman neighborhood. It still conserves its special white houses and cobbled streets. Its three post mills are the symbol of the neighborhood to this day. Apart from the charm of its streets, the sense of tranquility here is amazing.
